Anniversary Staycation at Al Marjan Island

Hubby and I booked for an overnight getaway at Al Marjan Island to celebrate a personal milestone in our lives. We chose to stay at Double Tree by Hilton Resort & Spa at Al Marjan Island to relax and get away from the hustle bustle of city life.

Al Marjan Island is the first man-made island located in Ras Al Khaimah, one of the seven emirates of the UAE. It is just an hour drive from Dubai and is conveniently located near to Al Hamra Shopping Mall. Just a reminder though that there are 2 other Hilton hotels in Ras Al Khaimah. There is Hilton Ras Al Khaimah Resort & Spa and the other one is Double Tree by Hilton Ras Al Khaimah, so one shouldn’t be confused with the other hotels.

We reached Ras Al Khaimah at 12:00 noon, too early for our check-in so we visited the nearby mall, Al Hamra Mall to grab some snacks / lunch and to check on some items on sale. It is a small shopping centre compared to the malls in Dubai, but things were sold cheaper of course.

We checked in at 2pm and rested for a while before going out for a swim. At around 5pm, temperature has dropped for a bit so we decided to go out and check the pool area. Apollo’s so excited to take a splash at the Pirate Boat Aqua Zone so we took him there. He was so happy and so brave to take the slides all by himself! He couldn’t get tired of the water, so after the Aqua Zone, he also tried building sand castles at the beach and enjoyed swimming there.

We had a sumptuous dinner at Al Marjan Restaurant located at the Ground Floor of the hotel. They offer different themed nights all throughout the week for guests to enjoy the variety of food specialties from around the world:

  • Mondays – Turkish Night
  • Tuesdays – German Night
  • Wednesdays – Asian Night
  • Thursdays – Chef Night
  • Fridays – Arabic Night
  • Saturdays – Italian Night
  • Sundays – South American Night

During our time it was an Italian Night so we were served with delicious Italian delicacies. They have a live cooking station for pastas and pizzas, big chunks of grilled lamb and to my surprise they also cater sweetly marinated grilled pork.

After our dinner, while our son was watching some arabic cartoons, hubby and I just hanged out at the small terrace in our room. We had some private chats over some bottles of Korean beer and breezer. The view from the terrace is overly romantic at night. It has a combination of blue and pink lights from the pool area and it added a perfect view of the pool and the sea.

The following morning we were awakened by the sound of the alarm clock set at 6:00am. After some few minutes of prepping up, I rushed through the seashore to have a leisurely walk and to capture the lovely sunrise. What a great way of starting the day!

Breakfast was served at Al Marjan Restaurant, same place where we had our dinner last night. They offered a wide array of international breakfast menu. I was again impressed to have some pork included on the buffet table.

Apollo was itching to go back to the pool so we accompanied him there. It was a good thing to have a shed on the kids pool area so we didn’t get burnt out. After this, he also tried the Kid’s Club where he had so much fun trying on the different games and activities there.

We had a short but memorable stay at the hotel. We just loved everything about it – the wide and comfortable beds, captivating view from the balcony, the lovely surprise decorations on the bed, sumptuous food, the amenities, relaxing pool and beach area, the complimentary anniversary cakes and the friendly customer service. And not to forget the cookies they gave us, one for each of us upon check in and a bonus one during check out.. such a generous gesture.
